Vedas have been main source of knowledge – physical or metaphysical – for Indian belief. Advancement of science and technology has brought this belief under scanner in the past century. Science and technology have made the human life more complex. It is science and technology, which is determining how the people should live, connect or transact with each other. Science and technology is no more restricted to economic development but covers all aspects of human life. Indian society is undergoing a sea change and is reinventing itself. We need to focus on knowledge economy instead of service/manufacturing economy.

Recognised as one of the oldest civilization in the world, Indian civilization has very strong and deep rooted tradition of science and technology which is multi-dimensional, covering manufacturing of the best steel in the world to the science of counting. India was the most active contributor to the science and technology before modern laboratories were set up. This can be substantiated through archaeology, linguistic analysis and genetic research. Theories and techniques, discovered by Indians, centuries back, have been further strengthened by modern science and technology. Some of the theories or techniques are either acknowledged or still unknown to the modern science. The known theories include – concept of zero, decimal system, numerical notations, Fibonacci numbers, binary numbers, chakravala method of algorithms, rural measurements, a theory of atom, heliocentric theory, wootz steel, smelting zinc, seamless metal globe, plastic surgery, catrac surgery, Ayurveda, iron rockets and many more.

Having deep roots in Vedas and ancient knowledge, India has potential to steer human life towards sustainable and human friendly solutions to the current state, which is volatile, uncertain and complicated, posing serious threat to the existence to human life and earth. Traditional Indian knowledge believes in oneness of the universe and the entire world is a single family. Indian knowledge system is significant when world is facing problems of inborn conflicts of modern science and technology. Science is nothing but the finding of unity. Science is bound to come to a conclusion that 'Manifestation and not the creation is the word of science today’. During the famous Chicago speech in 19 September 1893, Swami Vivekanand made a very significant observation and he opined that "From the high spiritual flights of the Vedanta Philosophy, of which the latest discoveries of science seem like echoes”.

Need of the hour is to have meaningful confluence of Vedic and Modern science to understand insight and to know its feasibility and to work for its integration.
